Details

Original Tibetan replica Gampopa Buddha statue in premium quality. Made in cast-bronze, then fully gilded and painted on the face. Replica statues are made from old molds that are rarely found today, as they used to be. Historical original statues that underlie these molds are now in museums. These figures differ significantly from today's conventional molds in shape, surface treatment and proportions.
Gampopa (1079-1153) came from a family of doctors. After training as a doctor, he married and had 2 children. After a severe stroke of fate, his children and wife died because of illness, without being able to heal them. He then turned to the Dharma. Until he met his teacher Milarepa, he was a monk in the Kadam tradition. As the most discerning disciple of Milarepa he was appointed by him the lineage holder of the Mahamudra doctrine. He combined the teaching with the Kadam tradition and introduced the monastic life. As a great teacher he had many students. Four of his senior students founded monasteries after being instructed by him in the mahamudra teaching. They founded the four major Kagyü schools, Karma Kagyu, Phagdru Kagyu, Barom Kayü, and Tshelpa Kagyü. His full name is Gampopa Dagpo Lhaje, all Kagyü schools go back to him, which is why he occupies a special place of honor in the Pantheon of Kagyu.
